This is not your ordinary guide for thief/assassin leveling. The state of the server, including population’s average level, economy, inflation, and even the interest of the public was considered to help new players navigate their adventure in Rune Midgard.
If you wished to level as quickly as possible, then this guide is not for you. This is crafted around the unique server drop rate mechanics where you’ll receive penalty if the level difference between you and your target is more than 3 levels. Of course, we will maximize the thief skill “STEAL”.
Important Notes:
*You will receive a New User Box upon character creation. The content of the box can be seen here https://ro.gnjoy.asia/news/detail.php?id=147 .
*Once lvl 10 steal is available, make sure to use it until you drain your SP.
*Depending on the buying price of a specific material, you may stay in a map for an extended period to earn more zeny.
Level 1-8 (Academy)
Start your journey through theAcademy. Follow this guide https://ro.gnjoy.asia/gameguide/?gg=1
Hunt Porings at prt_fild08 and try to collect as may jellopies as possible since you can exchange 100 jellopy for 5 pcs battle manual at the errand man npc located at Prontera 204,52. Don’t worry if you were not able to collect enough jellopies as you’ll get more in the future. Also, open the New User Box in your inventory to receive your starting items including the Time Keeper Box which contains your weapon and armor.
Level 8-14 (Bee Sting, Wind of Verdure)
Transfer to prt_fild05 to hunt Hornet.
Level 13-19 (Scorpion Tail, Red Blood)
Hunt Scorpion at moc_fild18. Stay away from Dragon Fly.
Level 16-22 (Snail’s Shell, Crystal Blue)
Hunt Ambernite at prt_fild04.
Level 18-24 (Rainbow Shell, Wind of Verdure)
Hunt Stainer at prt_fild02
Level 20-26 (Cactus Needle, Green Live)
Hunt Muka at moc_fild01
Level 23-29 (Poison Spore, Karvodailnirol, Creamy Card)
Hunt Poison Spore at mjolnir_06. If you are lucky, you may get a Creamy Card in your stay in this map. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t get any though.
Level 29-35 (Horn, Green Live)
Hunt Horn at mjolnir_02.
Level 35-41 (Yoyo Tail, Cacao, Yoyo Card)
Hunt Yoyo at prt_fild03. The monsters here are the same as mjolnir_02. The only difference is that there are more Yoyos than Horns. If you wish to level up a bit faster, transfer to prt_fild03. If you wish to farm more materials from Horn, then feel free to stay at mjolnir_02. Yoyo tails can be submitted at the Eden group collection quest to get extra experience.
Level 36-42 (Jur[3] ,Elven Ears, Skel Worker Card)
Hunt Martin, Skel Worker, Giearth at mjo_dun02. You may grind here instead of prt_fild06 if you wished to start working on your GX weapon. You may keep the Jur[3] then refine it to +9 or +10 in the future.
Level 43-49 (Cobweb)
Hunt Argos at moc_fild03. Although there are other maps with better spawn rate of Argos, this map is a lot safer as compared to its counterparts. Also, you can just hit some Wolves in the process to speed up your levels. At this point, we are grinding more experience points than farming materials. Cobweb is just a side hustle.
Level 49-55 (Immortal Heart)
Around this level, you should be able to change class into an assassin or close to being one. Make sure to max your thief job level to 50 before applying. Hunt immortal hearts at moc_pryd05 from Verit. You may also transfer to moc_pryd03 if you wished to collect other items such as rotten bandages, memento, or Matyr Card.

Level 50-56 (Mermaid Heart)
You may transfer to iz_dun02 to hunt Obeaune. Mermaid heart is the primary reason that you are here but some occasional mystic frozen and some juicy witherless rose won’t hurt either as these roses can be sold in npc’s for a decent amount of zeny.
Level 51-57 (Zenorc’s Fang)
Hunt Zenorc’s at orcdun02. Check the place out first before you decide to farm here. At times, there are a few parties and some AFK Alchemists crowding this map.
Level 56-62 (Maneater Blossom)
Hunt at cmd_fild03. While farming maneater blossoms, you may also get an Alligator card in the process. You can stay here even until level 65 if you wished to.
Level 65-75 (Sidewinder Card, Venomous Canine, White Herb)
Farming sidewinders will be your thing until you reach level 75. Visit mjolnir_03 and consider spending some skill points in grimtooth to improve your farming. Just be careful since Mantis (insect) can detect invisible units. Sidewinder card is a decent choice for your Metal Katar[1].
Level 74-80 (Fabric, White Herb, Evil Druid Card)
Hunt at gl_church. If you are lucky enough to get an Evil Druid Card or two, you may keep it for future use or sell it for a quick buck but keep in mind that Evil Druid Card is necessary for instances and boss hunting that you’ll most likely do in the future.
Level 78-84 (Ogre Tooth)
Hunt High Orc at alde_dun02. Just stay away from Arclouze.
Level 86-89 (Witch Starsand, Bathory Card, Joker Card)
Key of the Underground is necessary to hunt at alde_dun04. This is obtainable from the Eden boards quest for Alde, or you may loot it from Clock. Aside from Bathory, you will encounter Joker in alde_dun04. Joker card allows its user to use level 1 steal which is a useful tool in completing the Dimensional Crack quest for non-thief classes. Also, Bathory card is a necessary card for dungeons, instances, and boss hunts.
Level 90-99 (The Paper Card, Firelock Soldier Card)
ama_dun03 is an alternative map that can help you reach level 99. Although the misc loots here are not as valuable as the other maps, the price of The Paper Card and Firelock Card is enough to justify your stay here. In case you didn’t get any of those cards, you’ll still be able to reach level 99 rather quick.
Level 95-99 (Armor Piece of Dullahan, Nab’s Cloth, Sapha’s Cloth)
nif_fild02 is rather a high-level area which will require you to create a slave priest to endow your weapon with holy property. If you have the time and capability to make one, then you’ll have an extra map to choose from to farm your way to 99. Also you’ll be able to loot nab’s and sapha’s cloth in this area which are important equips for your 3rd class advancement.
Level 90-99 (Claw of Desert Wolf)
ra_fild01 has a lot of Desert Wolves running around. They occasionally drop stilleto, durga, and katar. You may sell the stilletos in the NPC though.
Level 93-99 (Blue Hair, Kobold Card)
ra_fild05 can be your training grounds to 99. You can get Blue Hair from kobold which is a necessary material for lvl 100 Eden Boards quest. A couple of Kobold Cards is not bad to help you level once you transcend to a SinX.
Once you reach level 99/50, transcend/rebirth in Juno then do the process all over again.
Stat Distribution
Your starting stats should be at STR 9, AGI 9, DEX 9. Ideally from levels 1 to 9, you have to distribute all of your stats to AGI. By level 10 until your reach level 50, make sure to distribute 1 point of dex per level. Consider adding STR once you have 20 AGI.

STR 17, AGI 30, DEX 30
Stats at Level 50
STR 30, AGI 41, DEX 50
Stats at Level 70
STR 34, AGI 70, DEX 60
Stats at Level 90
STR 60, AGI 80, DEX 64, LUK 30
At around lvl 80, you may start considering adding points in LUK because that is a cheap way of improving your damage, flee, hit, and perfect dodge. On your way to 99, it is up to you whether you wished to increase your DEX, STR, AGI, or if you feel like adding some points in VIT, feel free to do so. Do not be afraid to explore the stats since you still have to transcend which force you to reset your stats back to 1.
SKILL POINT DISTRIBUTION
At the start of your journey as a thief, add 5 levels of double attack then max improve dodge. At job level 21, both double attack and improve dodge should be maxed. From there, work your way to max STEAL. At job level 31, STEAL should be maxed, and should be used if you still have enough SP. Work your way to job level 50 then max Envenom, get detoxify, and lastly add the remaining points to get level 8 Hide. In RO GGH, you don’t have to take the test if you are at job level 50. Just talk to the test NPC and he’ll turn you in to an assassin instantly.
As an assassin, prioritize unlocking the skill Grimtooth, max it first then max Katar Mastery. At this point, you may start getting lvl 6 Enchant Poison to assist your grind. Ideal skill build for a 99/50 assassin is Katar Mastey 10, Sonic Blow 10, Cloaking 10, Enchant Poison 10, Grimtooth 5, Poison React 4. This skill build should Change once you are a sinx. This route is heading towards Rolling Cutter GX which is a good build to level and grind.
HOW TO SELL OR DISPOSE YOUR FARMED MATERIALS
Some materials can be easily sold or disposed by searching for a buy vend merchant using the item Universal Catalog Silver. You can buy this for 200 zeny each from the Catalog Magician located at the 1st floor of Eden Headquarters. Teleport to Eden HQ using your Eden Badge then locate the NPC using this command /navi moc_para01 22/16.
Once you get your hands on the Universal Catalog Silver, go back to Prontera, double click it then search for the materials through the buying section. If you really need to sell your materials to buy some supplies, look for the highest buying price, then sell your materials to them.
Once you get a decent amount of zeny to fund your adventure (pots, flywings, awakening potion) consider making a merchant to vend your materials at a higher price. You may use the universal silver again to check the selling price this time to get an idea on how much you should vend your materials.
